Nunobikiyaki is a Shiga Prefecture pottery. It flourished for a long time as a pottery production area in the Nunobiki mountain about 1,000 to 1,200 years ago, but then ceased to exist. In the 1970s, the young potter Taro Kojima, who was searching for a new world of pottery, became fascinated by the unique texture of Nunobikiyaki and began to work on reproducing it in a modern style. In the process, he devised a painting technique using kiln-changed glazes in a variety of colours with a deep transparency.
This item was purchased by us from a Japanese university professor whose family was moving.Previously, the professor lived with his parents in two households, so we purchased fair a few of Japanese tableware from the Showa period (AD1926-1989) In goos condition.
